Bond reduction denied for suspect charged in infant’s death

A motion for bond modification was denied for the man charged in connection with the death of an infant in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

Alexander Heck is charged with first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in relation to the death that occurred in March of 2022.  Defense attorney Michael Thompson requested Heck’s bond be reduced, saying he was the one that found the child unresponsive and called 911.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen contends that Heck was the sole caretaker of the child at the time the 15-month old was found unresponsive.

Judge Andrew Self ultimately denied the motion for bond and set a pretrial hearing for May 10.

The indictment against Heck alleges he “wantonly engaged in conduct” that led to the victim’s death on March 1 of last year. Heck is also accused of tampering with evidence by concealing, removing or altering evidence that he believed was about to be used in an official proceeding.
