Heavy rain likely Friday, severe weather possible

Heavy rain and severe weather will be possible as a storm system moves into western Kentucky Thursday night and Friday.

The National Weather Service in Paducah continues to call for up to three inches of rain in the southern Pennyrile region, with up to five inches in counties to the north and west. Repeated thunderstorms over the same areas could also enhance rainfall amounts.

Flash flooding will become possible during the heavy rain—especially in the usual low-lying and poor drainage areas—and residents should keep an eye on the latest updates for any potential watches or warnings.

The Storm Prediction Center has also outlined western Kentucky and middle Tennessee for a slight risk of severe weather Friday, with forecasters saying any severe storms will be most likely in the afternoon and evening hours.
