Unemployment up from December to January in all nine Pennyrile counties

Unemployment was up from December to January in all nine Pennyrile counties, but was down from one year ago in seven of those counties.

Christian County’s January jobless rate was 4.9 percent, up from 4.5 percent in December, but down from 5.1 percent in January of 2022. It equated to 1,238 people who were looking for work and unable to find it.

Todd County no longer has the region’s lowest jobless rate, coming in at 3.7 percent, up from 3.1 percent in December and from 3.3 percent a year ago.

The unemployment rate in Trigg County was 5.1 percent, up from 4.3 percent in December and from 4.7 percent in January of 2022.

Caldwell County now has the region’s lowest jobless rate at 3.6 percent and Muhlenberg County the highest at 6.2 percent.

The state average was 4.2 percent and the national number was 3.9 percent.
