Bentzel talks Purple Star designation, safety, consolidation

Christian County School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel said he’s proud of the Purple Star designation that all of the district’s schools have now received and he gave an update on consolidation and school safety during his regular appearance on WHOP Tuesday morning.

The middle and high schools have joined the elementary schools in achieving the Purple Star designation and Bentzel says that means they have all of the people and tools in place to serve the unique needs of students from military families.

University Heights Academy, Heritage Christian Academy, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and the two elementary schools on Fort Campbell have also earned the Purple Star designation.

Bentzel says three of the recently purchased weapons detection devices have already arrived and they’ve been installed at Hopkinsville High School.

Regarding the high school consolidation process, Bentzel says they’ve looked over the bid packages and they’re waiting on word from their construction manager for when it’s the best time to put the project out for bid—though the plan is for next school year to be the final for Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School to operate separately.
