Three injured after Pembroke area fire, home heavily damaged

Fire caused severe damage to a home near Pembroke Saturday morning, injuring two residents and a firefighter.

Crews were called to the large home in the 1700 block of Howard Dickerson Road just before 6 a.m. and Pembroke Fire Chief Nick Belair says the blaze began with a candle near items on an end stand.

He says the main living area was a total loss, but the remaining portions of the home were saved, with heavy smoke damage throughout the structure.

Two occupants in the home were able to escape with minor burns and refused a trip to the hospital. Two dogs died in the fire.

A firefighter was injured after he fell six to eight feet and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Fairview, Trenton, Honey Grove and Oak Grove fire departments provided mutual aid.
