Spring Training Continues…

>>Reds Fall to Cubs; Play Mariners Today

(Mesa, AZ)  — The Reds also lost by two runs in their spring training matchup with the Cubs in Mesa.  Luke Maile and Jason Vosler each slugged home runs in the 8-6 defeat.  However, Hunter Greene was sharp in his start as he gave up just two hits and struck out three hitters over four innings.  Manager David Bell announced Greene will be the opening day starter while Nick Lodolo will serve as the Number-two.  Cincinnati will play the Mariners this afternoon in Peoria.

>>Big Sixth Inning Leads Cubs Past Reds

(Mesa, AZ)  — The Cubs scored six runs in the sixth inning of their 8-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds in Spring Training yesterday.  Trey Mancini, Patrick Wisdom, and Christopher Morel all went deep in the victory, but Jameson Taillon got tagged for four runs in three-and-two-thirds innings.  Chicago improved to 9-and-4 in exhibition play.

>>Cardinals Rally Past Team Nicaragua

(Jupiter, FL)  — The Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Team Nicaragua 6-4 in Spring Training yesterday.  Jeremy Rivas hit a two-run go-ahead single in the inning to put St. Louis up for good.  Dakota Hudson tossed four scoreless innings in the victory.  The Cardinals send Jordan Montgomery to the mound against the Mets tonight.

>>Braves Continue Spring Training

(North Port, FL)  — The Braves are continuing their Grapefruit League action.  Atlanta lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 yesterday in Dunedin.  Sam Hilliard recorded Atlanta’s lone run of the game with a solo shot in the seventh inning.  Bryce Elder was charged with the loss on the mound.  The Braves fell to 4-6-and-2 this spring.  They will visit the Tampa Bay Rays today this afternoon at Tropicana Field.  In other news, reliever Kolby Allard has been placed on the 10-day IL.  The Athletic is reporting that Allard will miss the start of the season due to an oblique strain.
