Spring Training Continues; WBC Begins

(Goodyear, AZ) — The Reds beat the Giants 7-3 in Cactus League action. TJ Friedl smashed a three-run homer while Tyler Stephenson and several others drove in a run. Graham Ashcraft got the win after pitching three innings while giving up two earned runs. In other news, the team reassigned Chase Anderson to the main roster. The 35-year-old is expected to compete for a starting rotation spot. Cincy will play the Padres in Peoria today.

(Surprise, AZ) — The Cubs rattled off 11 hits during a 9-6 win over the Texas Rangers in Spring Training yesterday. Luis Torrens hit two home runs, and Edwin Rios also went yard. The Cubs are now 8-and-4 in exhibition play. Chicago goes up against Team Canada ahead of the World Baseball Classic today.

>>Cardinals Get Crushed By Tigers
(Lakeland, FL) — The Cardinals got knocked around during a 16-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Spring Training yesterday. Cardinals’ pitchers surrendered 19 hits in the losing effort. Nolan Gorman and Dylan Carlson both went deep, and Gordon Graceffo gave up four runs in two-and-two-thirds innings of work. St. Louis dropped to 6-and-4 in exhibition play. The Cardinals take on the Yankees today.

>>Wainwright Earns Game One Start for Team USA
(Lakeland, FL) — Adam Wainwright is taking the rubber for another big game. Team USA manager Mark DeRosa announced yesterday that the Cardinals legend will start the first game of the World Baseball Classic on Saturday. The 41-year-old had a solid regular season in 2022, going 11-and-12 with a 3.71 ERA in 191-and-two-thirds innings of work. Saturday’s game against Great Britain will start at 8:00PM.

>>Braves Continue Spring Training
(North Port, FL) — The Braves are continuing Grapefruit League action. Atlanta lost to the Boston Red Sox 10-2 yesterday in North Port. Kevin Pillar hit his second home run of the spring on a slow day at the plate. Jesse Chavez was charged with the loss. The Braves fell to 4-5-and-2 record this spring. The Braves will take today off and return tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin. In other news, MLB-dot-com is reporting that starting pitcher Kyle Wright threw a bullpen session yesterday and will throw during live batting practice on Friday as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
