Gov. says death toll from Friday weather at 5

Five Kentuckians have died from severe weather and historic gusty winds the commonwealth experienced Friday.

Governor Andy Beshear listed off the ages, county of residence and genders of the victims during an update on the weather Saturday morning.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim there as 62-year old Bobby Junior Brown of Lewisburg. He had been stopped with traffic on Lewisburg Road as firefighters worked to cut a tree up that had fallen across the roadway.

At about 4 p.m. Friday, a tree on the west side of the road fell across his vehicle. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, Thelma Costelow, was taken by EMS to Medical Center in Bowling Green.

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office says 68-year old David Ramsey was struck with a large metal carport that became mobile during the wind on Pilot Knob Road in Auburn. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Governor Beshear says a majority of the damage across Kentucky is to utility and transportation infrastructure.

Kentucky Emergency Management Director Jeremy Slinker reminds those who are using generators to never run them indoors.

The governor says while most of the commonwealth saw impacts from the weather, the worst impacts were in western Kentucky.

Governor Beshear on Sunday is expected to be in McCracken County, where an EF2 tornado caused significant damage Friday.
