A preliminary hearing was waived Friday morning in Christian District Court for an Oak Grove man accused of shooting someone outside a party in 2020.
An Oak Grove Police Department warrant for first-degree assault served last week by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office at the Christian County jail against 45-year old Edwin Stewart of Oak Grove alleges that on July 18, 2020 he assaulted and then shot Christopher Wortham with a handgun.
The incident happened outside of a party on Kerri Lane in Oak Grove and Wortham was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment.
Stewart waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday and Judge Foster Cotthoff sent the case to the Christian County grand jury for consideration of indictment.
Defense attorney Michael Thompson asked the judge to allow Stewart out of jail on a $5,000 bond, but that motion was denied as all parties acknowledged Stewart was already on probation out of Missouri on a weapon-related charge.
Stewart remains lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
