Plea deal reached for man charged with rape of juvenile

A plea agreement was reached in Christian Circuit Court Thursday morning for a Fort Campbell soldier who had a sexual relationship with a minor.

Twenty-three-year-old Jose Mendoza of Clarksville pled guilty to third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and unlawful transaction with a minor involving a sex act as part of a deal that comes with a seven-year sentence.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling is opposed to probation and Mendoza would be required to register as a sex offender.

Mendoza had been originally indicted for three counts of second-degree rape, three counts second-degree sodomy, three counts first-degree sexual abuse and three counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor under 16 years of age.

The indictment said Mendoza had sexual relations with a minor under the age of 14 on three occasions in December of 2020.

He was released on an ankle monitor pending final sentencing, which is set for May 7.
