Bill regulating Flock cameras passes Senate committee

A bill regulating the use of license-plate reading Flock cameras such as the ones used in Hopkinsville has passed a senate committee.

Senate Bill 129 says that any entity, such as a city or police department, using the Flock cameras may keep the data pulled from the cameras for only 90 days. The bill also dictates that entities may not sell the information pulled from the cameras.

Bill sponsor, Senator Jimmy Higdon, says it’s all about being sure data isn’t used for improper purposes.

Around 20 other states have passed similar legislation, according to Senator Higdon.

The bill passed the senate transportation committee, and now heads to the full senate.
