Week 2 of the 2023 session of the Kentucky General Assembly has concluded and local lawmakers discuss what’s happened and what’s coming up during this week’s Legislative Update Program.
Ninth District Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke was pleased with the Senate passage of legislation reducing Kentucky’s state income tax to an even four-percent in January, saying it continues the progression toward the elimination of that tax.
While a Senate committee forwarded on legislation that would allow qualifying home-schooled students in Kentucky to utilize KEES scholarship money to attend college, Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County is also supporting a bill that would allow high schoolers to use those funds for more career and technical pathways post-graduation.
Representative Walker Thomas says there’s a bill being crafted now that would create a state-wide Search and Rescue Team, and he says it’s just one of the ways they’re preparing for future disasters.
You can hear local legislators discuss these issues and others Sunday morning at 9 on 98.7 Lite FM and online at lite987whop.com.
