Grand jury returns indictments for assault, criminal abuse

A Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday, including for second-degree assault and criminal abuse.

Indicted for second-degree assault and first-degree strangulation is 55-year-old Michael Morris of Hopkinsville, who was reportedly in an argument with his girlfriend when things became violent in November. He allegedly struck her several times with a closed fist and placed her in a choke hold where she couldn’t breathe.

A police report says the victim had visible injuries including a bloody lip, red marks on her arm, a swollen left ear and bruising on her forehead.

Also indicted for second-degree assault, along with first-degree wanton endangerment, is 45-year-old Carlos Hatcher of Hopkinsville.  He was allegedly in an altercation with the victim over text messages at a home on Camilla Drive when he allegedly struck her with the loaded handgun and then held the gun to her body.

Police say there were visible injuries to the victim’s right eye.

Indicted for first-degree criminal abuse against a child under the age of 12 is 27-year-old Faith Holland of Hopkinsville. She is alleged to have immersed the 16-month old victim in hot water, causing severe burns to the victim’s feet. She is also accused of grabbing the victim by the arm in a way the caused bruising, causing bruises across the victim’s body—possibly caused by pinching—and there was an apparent cigarette burn on the victim’s hand.

Holland reportedly admitted to progressing from minor abuse to immersing the victim in the hot water.
