Mayor Knight talks new fire station, hopes for downtown

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight appeared on the WHOP Early Bird Show Friday more and says his administration is looking at several upcoming projects, including the construction of a new fire station.

The fire station will likely be near the Walmart Distribution Center off of 41A and the mayor says they hope to have the purchase of that land finalized in the coming weeks and after that’s secured, they’ll start the hiring process.

He says that station will be a great benefit to the community in that area, which is growing, as it will also provided additional EMS services.

Mayor Knight says they hope to hear a plan from the owners of the Phoenix Building soon, as he would like to see that building revitalized as its such a central part of downtown.

They’re still waiting to hear a report from a structural engineer concerning the L&N Depot, and he plans to have all the information about the cost, damages and possible options concerning that property complied soon.
