Public schools were placed on lockdown Monday afternoon in Christian County after a student was found to be armed with a handgun at Hopkinsville High School.
Hopkinsville Police Captain Rico Rodriguez says a student reported that another male student on campus had a handgun about 1:25 p.m.
The school resource officer confronted the suspect and he fled on foot, but was soon captured. The male did not have the gun on him at that time he was taken into custody.
Further investigation determined the minor teen had allegedly tossed the gun onto the roof, according to police.
The Christian County Public School System says the lockdown had been lifted by 2:30 p..m. and no students or faculty were injured.
Rodriguez says the student is charged with possession of a handgun by a minor, receiving stolen property, possession of a handgun on school property, tampering with evidence, fleeing or evading police and first-degree terroristic threatening.
