HCA Can’t Conquer Cougars

It almost feels like a broken record at this point.

Heritage Christian is defeated, but played a tough and hard nosed game.

Logan County came into town and took down the Warriors 47-39.

HCA led 26-19 at the half, and trailed by just two points at the end of the third.

The offense at times was exactly what Head Coach Matt McGowan wants. Attack downhill to the basket, move the ball, find the open shot.

Defensively, as you can see, they held the Cougars to just nineteen first half points.

Dominant on the glass, even through the third quarter, the Warriors created second, third, and fourth opportunities and possessions for themselves.

Unfortunately, as we have said before, they just could not convert or finish.

Give the Cougars credit. They outscored the Warriors 28-13 in the second half thanks mostly to a defensive adjustment they mad switching into a two-three hybrid zone.

It obviously effected HCA.

Head Coach Matt McGowan made it clear last night that the priority was this upcoming weekend. The KCAC state tournament.

However, after the game, you would not have known it as he was visibly frustrated with how the game unfolded.

HCA has proven they can compete in games like Logan County, Hopkins County Central, and Gordonsville, TN. They have also showed they can win games, like Livingston Central and Dawson Springs. Not to mention of course the FCA, Clarkesville Christian, and Fellowship Christians of the world.

Now it becomes consistency. Can they win all the games listed above, as they should have. No one is asking them to defeat or compete with the Todd County Centrals, UHA’s, or even Trigg County’s just yet. That isn’t to say they never will, they absolutely will. Right now though, it’s about them, not they.
