Kentucky Falls Just Short at Mississippi State

Robyn Benton scored 24 points and added a career-high seven assists but the Kentucky women’s basketball team came up just short, falling to Mississippi State 77-76 on Sunday at Humphrey Coliseum. Jada Walker had 22 points for the Cats, while Maddie Scherr had 16 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists before fouling out.

Cardinals Stumble Against #20/18 NC State, 63-51

Due to a poor shooting performance, the Louisville women’s basketball team fell 63-51 to No. 20/18 NC State this afternoon. The Cardinals are now 15-7 (6-3 ACC) while the Wolfpack move to 15-5 (5-4 ACC). Chrislyn Carr led the Cardinals with 16 points, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. This marks her fifth straight game with two or more threes and the seventh time this season she has hit four or more threes in a game. The Cardinals shot 41.2 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from the three-point line in the first half to put them up 33-31 going into the locker room. However, an uncharacteristic second half saw 18.8 percent shooting from the field and zero three-point shots from either team. Morgan Jones recorded 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals, her fifth game this season with multiple steals. Hailey Van Lith was the third Cardinal to score in double figures this afternoon with 11 points and also contributed two steals. Louisville had a season-low of six assists, led by two from Mykasa Robinson. Robinson added five points, six rebounds and a steal. Louisville pulled down 37 boards in comparison to NC State’s 41. Olivia Cochran led the team with 11 rebounds, marking her 14th game with at least seven rebounds and her fourth game with at least 10 rebounds this season.

(Undated)  — Memphis took down Cincinnati 75-68 in college basketball action.  The Tigers are now 15-and-5 and will host SMU on Thursday.  Kentucky edged Texas A-and-M 76-67 over the weekend.  The Wildcats are 13-and-6 and visit Vanderbilt tomorrow night, Pre-game at 6:30 on 98.7 Lite FM. The Commodores won a close game against Georgia 85-82 and improved to 10-and-9.  Number-9 Tennessee is coming off a 77-56 win against LSU.  The Vols are 16-and-3 and will host Georgia Wednesday night.  Louisville lost to Pitt in its last game.  The Cardinals have lost eight straight games and are 2-and-17. They’ll head to Boston College on Wednesday.

Injuries Plague Tops in Loss to Charlotte

WKU Hilltopper Basketball was without the nation’s leading shot blocker Jamarion Sharp on Saturday night. Additionally, sixth year senior starting guard Luke Frampton suffered a knee injury less than three minutes into the game and was unable to return. Out two starters, the injuries proved too much to overcome as the Hilltoppers fell to Charlotte in a heartbreaking 75-71 loss in E.A. Diddle Arena.

Lady Toppers’ Win Streak Ended at Charlotte

WKU women’s basketball (9-9, 6-3 C-USA) had its five-game win streak snapped at Charlotte (8-10, 4-5 C-USA) on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Toppers fell to the 49ers, 72-65, in a game that feature 15 lead changes and seven ties.

Racers Fall To Lady Bears at Home

The Murray State women’s basketball team could not find its groove Sunday and fell to Missouri State, 77-61, at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.

Sweet Swishes! Racers Outlast Sycamores With Free Throw Wave

The Murray State Racers outscored the Indiana State Sycamores by 16 points from the free throw line Saturday to produce an 82-73 victory at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers (11-9) improved to 6-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference in front of the largest crowd of the home season at 6,006. Murray State hits the road next week for a game at Southern Illinois on Tuesday and returns to The Bank (Jan. 28) to host Missouri State on Ja Morant Poster Day. Brian Moore, Jr., scored 19 points, while DJ Burns and Rob Perry each added 18 and Jamari Smith tallied 12 points. Burns turned the day into his fourth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.

Govs tame Lions, move into tie for first in ASUN standings

A career-high 22 points from Shamarre Hale led Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team to its fifth-straight ASUN Conference win in a 61-52 victory against North Alabama, Saturday, at Flowers Hall.  The Governors now sit tied for first in the ASUN standings. Hale led Austin Peay (11-6, 6-1 ASUN) in scoring for the third time in the last four games, as the Govs secured their longest winning streak since 2017.

Three score in double-figures, but Govs can’t hold off late EKU run

Three scored in double-figures for the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team – led by 17 points from Sean Durugordon – but it was not enough to hold off a late Eastern Kentucky run and the Governors fell, 74-59, in ASUN Conference action, Saturday, in the Winfield Dunn Center. Cameron Copeland and Elijah Hutchins-Everett added 14 and 10 points, respectively, to round out the Austin Peay (8-13, 2-6 ASUN) scorers in double-figures. Copeland also grabbed a team-leading six rebounds and Guy Fauntleroy dished out a team-best five assists in just his second start of the season for the Governors. Devontae Blanton led Eastern Kentucky (13-8, 6-2 ASUN) with a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double while also recording a team-leading four assists.
