Phil Keel, former WHOP gospel show contributor and retired firefighter, dead at 76

Former WHOP gospel show contributor and retired Hopkinsville firefighter Philip “Phil” Keel died Saturday at the age of 76.

Keel answered the phone and gave announcements on Sunday mornings for several years on WHOP.

An obituary from Hughart Beard and Giles Funeral Home says in addition to being retired from the fire department, he also formerly worked at the Christian County Jail and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7890 in Cadiz and was the unofficial scorekeeper for the Hoptown Hoppers.
