LaRue gets 12 years for Elkton stabbing incident

A twelve-year prison sentence was given in Todd Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon to the man accused of stabbing his father multiple times during a February, 2021 incident in Elkton.

Trial ended in November with a jury convicting 38-year old Robert LaRue of first-degree assault.

Elkton police were called to 107 Morningside Drive on February 3, 2021 regarding a domestic altercation in progress and were talking to the caller outside when officers heard sounds of another altercation inside.

A police report says they found LaRue on top of his stepfather, 68-year old Phillip Whittaker, on a bed. He had a knife in his hand and was brandishing it above his head as if in the middle of a stabbing motion.

Whittaker was covered in blood and had to be treated at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Judge Joe Hendricks went along with the jury’s recommendation and handed down the 12-year sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Commonwealth’s Attorney Neil Kerr and investigated by the Elkton Police Department.
