(Undated)  — Memphis is now 8-and-3 following a loss to 5th-ranked Alabama.  The Tigers entertain Texas A&M Saturday night.  Tennessee improved to 9-and-1 after beating 13th-ranked Maryland.  The 7th-ranked Vols are on the road playing Number-9 Arizona on Saturday.  Kentucky is 7-and-2 after beating Yale.  The 13th-ranked Wildcats host Number-14 UCLA on Saturday. We will have coverage beginning at 2:30 on 98.7 Lite FM. Vanderbilt fell to 5-and-5 following a loss to Grambling.  The Commodores will play NC State on the road Saturday night.

RV/#25 Cardinals Run Past Knights, 73-43

The University of Louisville women’s basketball returned to a familiar venue on Wednesday night as they 73-43 in Freedom Hall. This was the Cardinals (8-4) first game in Freedom Hall since March 17, 2010, when they played their final home game in the venue before moving to the KFC Yum! Center. Defense was the story for the Cards as they limited the Knights (4-7) to just eight points in the first half, tying a program record. Hailey Van Lith led the team with 19 points in the win to go with six rebounds, three assists and a steal. It is the ninth time in her 11 games this season that she has scored 18 points or more and the eighth time she has led the team in scoring. Chrislyn Carr added 13 points of her own and was 3-of-6 from behind the arc. It was the fifth time in the last six games she has scored in double figures and she had a team and season high seven assists. Olivia Cochran had a team-high eight rebounds, her eighth game this season with seven or more.

Ellis, Cards Top Western Kentucky 94-83 for First Win of Season

Louisville men’s basketball rode a balanced team effort and a dominant showing from senior guard El Ellis to its first win of the season Wednesday, beating in-state foe Western Kentucky 94-83 at the KFC Yum! Center. Ellis poured in a career-high 30 points to go along with a career-high 10 assists for his first career double-double. He’s the first Cardinal with 30 points and 10 assists in a game since Reece Gaines against TCU on March 6, 2002. Ellis was one of five players in double figures for Louisville (1-9), which shot a season-high 54.4% from the field, knocked down a season-high 13 of 25 3-pointers and made 19 of 20 free throws. Louisville’s 17 assists were also a season high, and its 94 points were its most since beating Eastern Kentucky 99-67 on Dec. 14, 2019. The victory was also the first of Kenny Payne’s head coaching career.

WKU Falls to Hot-Handed Louisville

WKU Hilltopper Basketball fell to Louisville Wednesday night in the KFC Yum! Center 93-84. While the Hilltoppers outrebounded Louisville, the Cardinals shot well above their average with a 54.5% clip from the floor, including netting 13 of 25 (52.0%) from beyond the arc.

Lady Toppers Tipoff Three-Game Road Swing at Indiana State

WKU women’s basketball will be on the road for the next three games, starting Thursday, Dec. 15 at Indiana State at 10 a.m. (CT). WKU stays on the road for the next two games, taking on California Baptist (Dec. 21) and tipping off C-USA play at Rice (Dec. 29). The Lady Toppers will return home to face Middle Tennessee on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.
