Bond modification was denied and a trial date was set in the case against Jaquavian Spencer in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday.
Spencer is facing two counts of first-degree assault in relation to a shooting that occurred at the Princess Theater on East Ninth Street that ultimately ended in the death of a victim. Defense attorneys requested a bond modification for Spencer, but Judge Andrew Self denied the request, saying he considers Spencer to be a danger to the community.
Spencer questioned why his bond is set at $100,000 in comparison to other first-degree assault cases, and the judge says he believes that amount to be appropriate.
A trial date was then set for August 11, and then a pretrial conference was set for June 28.
The shooting happened following a party at the Princess Theater and a warrant for a co-defendant says Zamarius Humphries pulled a gun on Spencer and that Spencer then pulled his own gun and shot Humphries in the neck.
That’s when 22-year old Deovion Day of Cadiz allegedly began firing at Spencer and struck Aniyah Collins, who was in her car attempting to leave the area. His gunfire also hit 30-year-old Gteria Acree, who was in a parking lot at the corner of East Eighth and Virginia Street.
Acree and Humphries required treatment at area hospitals and Collins died from her injuries
