HPD investigating burglary, shots fired

Hopkinsville police are investigating a burglary attempt with shots fired from early Wednesday morning.

Captain Rico Rodriguez says a woman living in the 2300 block of South Virginia Street heard someone trying to get in her back door a little before 2 a.m.

She retrieved a gun and confronted two suspects in her back yard, firing at them while they were on her property.

The two suspects fled the scene and the woman called police.

Shortly after, a man arrived at Jennie Stuart Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg and Captain Rodriguez says he was uncooperative with police, only saying he had been shot in the city.

While it’s certainly possible the two incidents are related, police say it hasn’t been confirmed and remains under investigation. The injured man was treated at Jennie Stuart and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
