PADD Board hears legislative preview at annual Christmas luncheon

For the first time since 2019, the Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors was able to have its Christmas luncheon and legislative preview at Pennyrile Forest State Park.

While a majority of the program was focused on upcoming issues in Frankfort, Morgan Alvey with U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office says work continues in D.C. on government funding and military appropriations legislation.

State Representative Mary Beth Imes of Murray, who represents part of Trigg County, says the legislature is likely to move quickly in 2023 to cut the state income tax another half-point to 4 percent in an incremental shift toward a consumption-based system.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says lawmakers could clarify the legality of so-called “gray machines” and the fate of any medical marijuana bill would again be uncertain at best.

PADD recognized outgoing Representative Melinda Prunty of Greenville, who chose not to seek re-election and remembered Senator C.B. Embry, who died this year following a battle with cancer.

Special recognition was also given to outgoing board members, including Trigg County Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander, who chairs the board and did not seek another term in this year’s election.
