A Christian County grand jury will soon hear the felony assault charge against the man accused of stabbing his girlfriend in the eye with a broom handle last month at a home on Peppermint Drive.
During a preliminary hearing for 46-year old Chad Love Friday morning, Hopkinsville Police Officer Zach Lamblin testified the alleged November 23 incident was witnessed by the victim’s grandmother, who said it all began with an argument over a cell phone.
The victim went with her grandmother to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for a severe right eye injury, though officials believe she will retain her vision in that eye.
The victim told Judge Lindsey Adams during arraignment Monday that the incident was a mistake, but she wasn’t allowed to explain further. She did not testify at the preliminary hearing Friday and Officer Lamblin says she’s never told police Love stabbed her.
District Judge Foster Cotthoff determined there is sufficient evidence to send the case to the grand jury for consideration.
He’s lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $25,000 bond, charged with first-degree assault and third-degree terroristic threatening.
