Governor Andy Beshear announced some changes to the juvenile justice system during his Thursday Team Kentucky update, along with an update to the Interstate 69 project in western Kentucky.
Updates and changes have been under way on Interstate 69 throughout western Kentucky, including on parkways to bring them up to interstate standards, and Governor Beshear says work is set to begin on the Julian-Carrol Purchase Parkway between Mayfield and Fulton—a vital step in the endeavor.
He says that means construction is underway in some capacity on all parts of I-69.
The governor says he’s looking into making changes to the Kentucky Juvenile Justice system to make it safer for those housed in state juvenile detention facilities, starting with creating the first female only facility in Newport.
The governor says they also intend to start their own in-house transportation system within the department, to help alleviate transportation struggles at the county level and make sure juveniles are being transported safely and responsibly. More announcements could come in the future, to improve things in the juvenile justice system in Kentucky.
