(Knoxville, TN)  — The number-13 Tennessee Volunteers earned their fifth consecutive win with a 76-40 rout over McNeese State at Thompson-Boling Arena.  The Vols gave up just 14 points in the first half, and they outscored McNeese by 20 in the second.  Santiago Vescovi poured in 16 points in the victory.  Tennessee improved to 6-and-1.  The Volunteers host Alcorn State on Sunday.

No. 18/15 Cards Fall Short Against No. 4/5 Buckeyes in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

The No. 18/15 Louisville women’s basketball team was defeated by No. 4/5 Ohio State 96-77 on Wednesday at the KFC Yum! Center. The contest marked the final ACC/Big Ten Challenge as the annual competition will be ending after 23 years. Louisville (5-3) was led by Hailey Van Lith, who secured her third career double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and added three assists and a steal. Morgan Jones finished with 15 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Chrislyn Carr tallied 14 points, including four three-pointers. The Buckeyes (7-0) were led by Taylor Mikesell, who scored a game-high 26 points, while Jacy Sheldon added 22 in the victory.

Second-Half Surge Keeps WKU Alive Against Austin Peay

Coming out of the halftime break on a 20-5 run, WKU Hilltopper Basketball fended off the Austin Peay Governors in a 75-74 win in Clarksville on Wednesday night. The 7-1 start to WKU’s season is the best for the program since 2006-07 when the team started in the same manner.

Western Kentucky escapes Austin Peay, 75-74

An Austin Peay State University game-winning 3-point attempt as time expired rimmed in and out Wednesday, preserving a 75-74 Western Kentucky win inside the Winfield Dunn Center. The Governors dropped their second-straight home game by just one point. Elijah Hutchins-Everett scored 13 of his 19 points in the first 20 minutes for Austin Peay (3-5). He shot 8-of-15 from the field to pace four Governors in double figures. Cameron Copeland finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and a 3-of-4 effort from deep. Carlos Paez scored all 14 of his points after halftime, going 3-of-6 from deep and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Caleb Stone-Carrawell ended with 12 points on a 5-of-9 clip from the floor. Durugordon totaled seven rebounds, while Hutchins-Everett and Paez had six and five, respectively. Paez dished out four assists, while Copeland and Stone-Carrawell each netted three. Austin Peay shot 50 percent (29-of-58) overall, 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from 3, and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the stripe. The Governors got 33 points from their reserves, including a combined 27 by Copeland and Stone-Carrawell. Austin Peay, facing the tallest team in the nation, controlled the boards 33-25, including 11-6 on the offensive glass, leading to 11 second chance points. The Governors limited the Hilltoppers, who entered Wednesday second in the country in 3-point percentage (.470) and 11th in 3-pointers per game (11), to a season-low four made treys and second worst clip – 33.3 percent (4-of-12) – from beyond the arc.

Racers Upend Skyhawks In Martin

The Murray State women’s basketball team shot an even 50-percent from the field Wednesday night in a 71-52 victory over UT Martin at the Elam Center in Martin, Tennessee. Their biggest win over UTM in nearly 15 years.

Govs return home for Comfy & Cozy Day against Gardner-Webb

After five-straight road games, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team returns to Clarksville and hosts Gardner-Webb for Comfy and Cozy Day at 11 a.m., Thursday, in the Winfield Dunn Center. For Comfy and Cozy Day, Austin Peay Athletics encourages fans to wear their pajamas, slippers or comfiest outfits to watch the Governors take on the Runnin’ Bulldogs. APSU also will be hosting Toys for Tots at Thursday’s game. Fans can help make a child’s Christmas this holiday season by donating one toy at the front entrance of the Dunn.
