Racers Lose Late Lead At Chattanooga
The Murray State Racers had within their sights, a first road win of the 2022-23 season, but a late 10-0 run sent them to a 69-66 defeat to the Chattanooga Mocs at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Racers (3-3) come home for their Missouri Valley Conference opener, the first in school history, Thursday against Illinois State. Rob Perry scored 22 points and Jamari Smith scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half on a night when he was bothered by foul trouble. DJ Burns scored 11 points, while he and Smith led the Racers with nine rebounds each.
Racers Cruise Past AAMU
The Murray State women’s basketball team had little trouble with Alabama A&M Saturday, cruising to a 57-36 win at the brand new Alabama A&M Event Center in Normal. MSU crashes boards for 60 rebounds Saturday.
Durugordon scores career-high 21 points against Howard
Austin Peay State University’s Sean Durugordon scored a career-high 21 points in the Governors’ 56-55 loss to Howard, Saturday, inside the Winfield Dunn Center. Durugordon also posted a career-high in field goal attempts (16) and tied career-highs in 3-pointers made (4) and free throws made (5). He was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Elijah Hutchins-Everett ended with nine points. Durugordon and Hutchins-Everett each grabbed eight rebounds. Cameron Copeland added seven points and six boards for Austin Peay (3-4), which shot 30.3 percent (20-of-66) overall and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. Carlos Paez dished out five assists for the Governors and moved past Nick Stapleton for seventh place on the school’s all-time list. Nate James’ team recorded 14 assists on 20 made field goals and held edges in points off turnovers (17-9) and bench points (7-5). Austin Peay committed only eight turnovers while forcing 19.
Six Hilltoppers in Double-Figure Scoring Propels WKU Past South Carolina State
With six players in double-figure scoring and two Hilltoppers on the cusp of triple-doubles, WKU Hilltopper Basketball cruised past the South Carolina State Bulldogs 90-64 on Saturday afternoon in E.A. Diddle Arena.
