Bond motion denied for suspect in Sharpe Street murder case

Bond reduction was denied Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit court for one of the suspects in the October 26, 2021 fatal shooting of 23-year old Adrian Acree at the intersection of Sharpe and Jones Street in Hopkinsville.

Attorney Olivia Adams is asking for bond to be reduced from $750,000 for Dekorien Daniel, saying he is no longer able to go over the evidence after the Christian County Jail changed its policy to only allow inmates to view DVD recordings with their lawyer or a representative of their lawyer with them.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling asked Judge John Atkins to leave bond as it is, saying Acree’s family is very much opposed to his release.

Judge Atkins noted Daniel was already on probation when the crime occurred and left his bond the same.

He also urged the local bar association to be in contact with the jail to find a remedy for the new policy on video-watching that now often comes up often in court proceedings.

Another pre-trial hearing was set for January 25.

A grand jury in April indicted 25-year old Cortez Hairston, Jr. of Hopkinsville for murder and Daniel and 24-year old Jaila Sherrod of Hopkinsville for complicity to murder.

Investigation by Hopkinsville police determined Sherrod allegedly drove Acree to the location where Hairston would gun him down. Sherrod and Daniel are also accused of helping in the planning of the murder.
