Kentucky Downs Radford in Season Opener

Jada Walker scored 19 points and Robyn Benton added 17 as the Kentucky women’s basketball team opened its season with an 82-78 win over Radford on Monday night at Memorial Coliseum. The Cats struggled shooting the ball, hitting 33 of 73 (45.2 percent) from the floor, including just two of 18 (11.1 percent) from behind the arc. However, UK turned defense into offense, forcing 16 Radford turnovers and turning those into 18 points.

Van Lith leads No. 7 Louisville past Cincinnati 87-68

Hailey Van Lith scored 28 points to lead No. 7 Louisville to an 87-68 victory over Cincinnati in Monday’s season opener for both teams. The Cardinals broke the game open with a 15-0 first-quarter run and led 46-25 in the final minute of the first half.

Lady Toppers Fall Short in Season Opener Against Vanderbilt

WKU women’s basketball fell behind early against Vanderbilt in the 2022-23 season opener on Monday evening at E.A. Diddle Arena. The Lady Toppers attempted a second half surge, but ultimately could not overcome the deficit. WKU was plagued by turnovers in the first half, committing 18 in the first 20 minutes. The Lady Toppers also shot just 30 percent from the field in the first half and nine percent from the beyond the arc.

Johnson leads Govs to commanding season-opening victory

A team-high 25 points from Yamia Johnson led Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team to its largest win in nearly two decades, as the Governors earned an 81-35 victory in its season opener against Cumberland, Monday, in the Winfield Dunn Center. The 46-point victory is the most since a 48-point win against Tennessee State, Feb. 15, 2003. The win also was the Govs’ sixth-straight in home openers – the longest streak in program history.
