Elevated wildfire risk again today

There’s again an elevated fire risk across western Kentucky today with dry conditions and gusty winds.

Southerly winds are expected to be 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 35 and that would make any wildfire spread very quickly.

Several volunteer fire departments responded to a grass and field fire on West Jeff Davis Highway in Fairview yesterday afternoon and were able to prevent it from getting to a nearby car and home.

Todd County Emergency Management officials say it began with someone burning trash and it quickly consumed a yard, jumped the road and spread into a wooded area.

Outdoor burn bans remain in effect for Christian, Todd and Trigg counties and the majority of the remainder of western Kentucky.
