Jones Named to 2023 Cheryl Miller Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced today that University of Louisville women’s basketball graduate guard Morgan Jones is one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2023 Cheryl Miller Award. Named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer, the annual award in its sixth year recognizes the top small forwards in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. Louisville is one of three teams to have a player named to each of the three positional watch lists so far this season. Chrislyn Carr was named to the Lieberman Award Watch List and Hailey Van Lith was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Watch List.

Van Lith and Jones Named Preseason All-ACC, Cardinals Picked First

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville guards Hailey Van Lith and Morgan Jones have been selected to the 2022-23 Preseason All-ACC Team, while the Cardinals were picked first in the league’s preseason poll, the league announced Wednesday evening.

Jack Harlow to Serve as Guest Host at Friday’s Louisville Live

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Grammy Award-nominated artist and Louisville native Jack Harlow will be the special guest host at Friday’s Louisville Live preseason basketball event. The 90-minute event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, with gates opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are available. In addition to Harlow, former Louisville Basketball stars Angel McCoughtry and Peyton Siva will also serve as hosts for the event. McCoughtry is a former No. 1 WNBA Draft pick, five-time All-Star, two-time Olympic gold medalist and the Cardinals’ all-time leading scorer with 2,779 career points. Siva led the Cardinals to two Final Fours and a national championship in 2013 before the results were later vacated, and he was also a two-time Most Outstanding Player at the Big East Conference Tournament. He was selected in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft and played professionally for nearly a decade. As part of the “Coming Home” theme and one of the opening events of a packed Homecoming weekend, McCoughtry and Siva will be just two of the numerous program alums expected back for the event. Fans will be introduced to both teams, who will then compete together with special guests in 3-point and Hot Shot competitions. The evening will conclude with the men’s Mountain Dew Dunk Contest and a fireworks show. There will be exclusive merchandise available at Louisville Live being sold in the Louisville Bats Team Store. Louisville Live will also be available to view via online streaming on ACC Network Extra. The event starts a busy Homecoming weekend, which also includes football’s game against Pittsburgh at 8 p.m. Saturday, as well as men’s basketball’s Red and White Scrimmage at 3 p.m. Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center. Tickets for the scrimmage can be purchased.

Govs finalize 2023 nonconference schedule with addition of three games

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University’s football team has completed its nonconference schedule for the 2023 football season with the addition of East Tennessee, Lindenwood, and Gardner-Webb. The Governors are set to open the 2023 season against Southern Illinois, Sept. 2, at Saluki Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois, before making the trip to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville to take on Tennessee, Sept. 9, for the first time since 2015. After squaring off with the Volunteers, the Governors will host ETSU, Sept. 16, at Fortera Stadium. Austin Peay made the trip to Johnson City in 2019 and the Buccaneers are set to make their 16th trip to Clarksville for the 30th all-time meeting between the in-state foes. The Governors then make their first-ever trip to St. Charles, Missouri, to take on new Ohio Valley Conference member Lindenwood, Sept. 30. It will be the first-ever meeting between Austin Peay and the Lions, who transitioned to the Division I level for the 2022-23 athletic year. Finally, the third-ever meeting with Gardner-Webb is set for Oct. 14 at Fortera Stadium. The Govs and Runnin’ Bulldogs played a home-and-home series in 2007 and 2008, with the Gardner-Webb winning both contests. Austin Peay’s football team will be back in action when it hosts Murray State, Oct. 15, for Military Appreciation Day at Fortera Stadium. The only other remaining home game against Jacksonville State, Oct. 29.

Wildcats Remain Unbeaten in Midweek Conference Draw

The midweek matchup between No. 2 Kentucky men’s soccer team (8-0-5, 3-0-3 Sun Belt) and Sun Belt Conference opponent Coastal Carolina (3-3-6, 0-0-5 Sun Belt) resulted in a scoreless draw on Wednesday at The Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

UK Picked to Win SEC Title; Oscar Tshiebwe Preseason Player of the Year

The Kentucky men’s basketball team, was picked by the league’s media to win the 2023 Southeastern Conference title. Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama followed the Wildcats in preseason poll voting. In addition to the preseason poll, senior Oscar Tshiebwe was tabbed the preseason SEC Player of the Year. Tshiebwe was joined on the preseason All-SEC First Team by fellow senior Sahvir Wheeler. It’s the 17th time since the 1998-99 season the Wildcats are the SEC preseason favorite.

Rob Perry Named To MVC Preseason Team

Murray State’s Rob Perry was among the 16-player All-Preseason Team as announced by the Missouri Valley Conference from the home office in St. Louis, Mo.
