>>Cardinals Extend GM Girsch

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals are locking down their general manager.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the team recently signed general manager Michael Girsch to a multi-year contract extension.  Girsch has been with the Cardinals organization since 2006, and he took over as general manager in 2017.  St. Louis also inked an extension with scouting director Randy Flores.

>>Goldschmidt, Arenado Are Finalists for Aaron Award

(Undated)  — A pair of Cardinals players are being recognized for their performances during the 2022 season.  The MLB announced that first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and third baseman Nolan Arenado were each named finalists for this year’s Hank Aaron Award.  The award honors the best offensive player from each league, and eight players were nominated from each league.  Arenado hit .293 with 30 home runs and 103 RBI this season, while Paul Goldschmidt had a .317 average with 35 homers and 115 RBI.

(St. Louis, MO)  — Albert Pujols will have to head back to the Los Angeles Angels.  The Los Angeles Times reports that Pujols will honor a post-retirement contract that he signed with the team in 2011.  When Pujols signed a contract with the Angels in free agency that offseason, he also signed a ten-year, ten-million dollar deal to stay with the organization for “personal services” once his career came to a close.  Pujols’ role with the Angels has not been specified, and it’s unclear how much he will be able to do with Cardinals over the next decade.

>>Report: Cubs Connected To Kodai Senga

(Undated)  — The Cubs may try to add a player from Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan for the second consecutive year.  Japanese sports publication Sankei Sports is reporting that the Cubs and the Boston Red Sox have shown interest in signing ace pitcher Kodai Senga from the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.  The Cubs signed outfielder Seiya Suzuki from the NPB last offseason.  The 29-year-old Senga went 11-and-6 with a 1.89 ERA and 159 strikeouts in 148 innings during the 2022 NPB season.

>>Four Cardinals Earn Gold Glove Nod

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals are being lauded for their defense once again.  Four players were named finalists for the National League Gold Glove awards yesterday.  Nolan Arenado goes for his tenth consecutive Gold Glove award at third base.  Tommy Edman was named a finalist at second base after winning the award last season, and he’s also up for the utility Gold Glove.  Paul Goldschmidt could win his fifth Gold Glove after being nominated at first base.  Brendan Donovan is a finalist for the utility award after starting at seven different positions this year.  The Gold Glove winners will be announced on November 1st.

>>Cubs OF Happ Named Gold Glove Finalist

(Chicago, IL)  — Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ is being recognized for his strong season in the field.  Happ was named one of three finalists for the National League Gold Glove award in left field.  Happ played almost exclusively in left field this season after spending prior seasons splitting between left and center field.  He has never won a Gold Glove award.  The winners for each position will be announced on November 1st.
