A Fort Campbell soldier has died from natural causes while deployed to Eastern Europe.

Forty-year-old Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas D. Goshen died September 6 while deployed with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and was based in Romania.

Since June, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has nearly 4,000 Soldiers deployed to Europe to assure NATO Allies and deter Russian aggression.

101st Commander, Maj. Gen. JP McGee said, “Nick was a valued member of the team whose passion and commitment to the division and our Soldiers was extraordinary. I can personally attest to his exceptional talent. He will be missed.”

Goshen was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 2004 after attending The Citadel Military College of South Carolina.

He has deployed seven times, one deployment to Iraq and six deployments to Afghanistan, totaling 42 months of overseas combat deployments.
