25-14, 25-22, 26-24.
It might have been a three set sweep for University Heights over Christian County, but the Lady Colonels made it anything but easy.
The Blazers flexed there muscles in set one. That 25-14 win came courtesy of their size and clear overall team talent advantage.
That being said, the Lady Colonels clearly picked up on some tendencies and learned some lessons, and went to work.
Christian County found themselves not once but twice on the brink of taking a set. Not just because they started to showcase there own talent, but also because they seemed to find another gear and an extra little effort on most every volley.
Diving on the floor, running down balls, an additional inch on a vertical for a block or a spike, and several well placed aces taking advantage of aggressive play by UHA.
Ultimately though, the Blazers size and overall team talent level prevailed.
Set two was 25-22 and featured a back and forth before the Blazers clearly pulled away in the end.
However, set three was a nail biter, that needed an extra point to decide it 26-24. Christian County reached twenty four first before giving up three straight points. Tied at twenty-four, then down twenty-five to twenty-four, and ultimately losing by two as is needed in volleyball.
As you can see though, with each set the Lady Colonels improved. Had they pulled off winning set three, I have a suspicion they would’ve won set four before dropping set five because certainly the Blazers were in the end the better team.
All that being said look out for the Lady Colonels going forward, as they have something special brewing.
