Todd County schools begin new year Wednesday

The first day of school in Todd County is Wednesday and many students should find safer buildings and new options available to them.

In an interview with WHOP News, Superintendent Mark Thomas says in addition to a partnership with the Todd County Sheriff’s Office and Elkton Police Department that has a school resource officer assigned to each building, there are also additional safety upgrades in their schools.

Thomas is also excited about a second year of a partnership with the Todd County Health Department where case managers keep an eye the mental health of students.

There are new co-op opportunities for high school students and students as young as sophomores can now take dual-credit courses that will get them college course hours.

The high school’s e-sports program is entering it’s second year and a varsity cross country program is being added for boys and girls.

Thomas is excited bout the hiring of Kimberly Davis and Josh Watkins as the new principal and assistant principal at Todd County Middle School and believes that building will continue to show improvement in multiple ways.
