The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is actively working to fill all of its school resource officer positions after the school board voted last week to fund having an officer at each school building.
There were five elementary schools without SRO’s in Christian County and while one of those positions has already been filled with the transfer of Sgt. Jeff Goulet from patrol to a school, Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says his office is in the process of hiring four more.
The sheriff says having an officer at each school will not only make those buildings safer, they’ll also have the ability to build positive relationships with the students.
Sheriff DeArmond is looking to make lateral hires of current police officers and anyone interested in applying can go to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office on West Seventh Street.
The Hopkinsville Police Department provides the SRO’s at middle and high schools.
