Murder and robbery charges have been dismissed without prejudice for 56-year old Regina Vause, one of three women indicted for the 2006 killing of 83-year old Roscoe Mayes at a home on Greenville Road.
Vause, 39-year old Anastaja Hathaway-Waddell and 46-year old Lashanda Person were all indicted for murder and robbery earlier this year, with an autopsy determining Mayes died from blunt force trauma.
An order entered by Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling Wednesday morning says the Christian County Sheriff’s Office conducted an interview with one of Vause’s co-defendants Tuesday and that individual said she and another co-defendant who is not Vause were the only two people with Mayes at the time of the murder.
Boling writes that previously, a witness said one of the co-defendants stated all three of the suspects had been together at a location where the victim’s vehicle was observed after the murder.
The same co-defendant had also reportedly told another person that all three of the suspects had been present at the time of the murder, according to Boling.
He asserts that while there was probable cause for the initial charges and indictment, the interview Tuesday necessitated Lt. Scott Smith of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office to meet with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and determine the charges should be dismissed without prejudice.
Boling adds that evidence has been resubmitted to the crime lab for possible DNA analysis and it’s still pending.
Dismissed without prejudice means Vause could be re-indicted if the Commonwealth were to discover some type of evidence that implicates her in the crime.
Attorney Olivia Adams represents Vause and did not object to the dismissal of the indictment without prejudice.
