Christian County Farm Bureau celebrated another year of service and looked back on challenges from last year during its annual meeting Thursday night at the Western Kentucky State Fair.
South office agency manager Ashtyn Hudson says the Hopkinsville claims office has paid out $54 million in claims from the December 10 and 11 tornadoes in Christian, Todd, Trigg, Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties and Kentucky Farm Bureau has paid $212 million on 7,700 claims statewide.
Gary Keaton of the Fort Campbell Boulevard office was also proud of how Farm Bureau responded.
Trinity Powell was the top overall female in the outstanding youth competition and she talked about the impacts of Bird Flu on the poultry industry during her remarks, saying it’s not just inflation that’s causing prices to rise at the grocery stores.
Claire Lacy took second place and Kenzie Johnson third.
Luke Luttrull was the outstanding male and talked about the challenges of fewer farmers in Kentucky compared to the general population.
In the way of legislative priorities, Christian County Farm Bureau is for solar energy projects to be required to obtain decommissioning bonds so that there’s a mechanism in place to clean up a site when it’s no longer useful.
The winners of the Farm Bureau Scholarships are John Ashby, Savannah Blanchard, Luke Luttrull, Micah Morris, Emma Perry, Sarah Sargent, Lauren Sisk and Tucker Wells.
