Funding, agreements in place for an SRO at each Todd County school

There is funding and agreements in place to have a resource officer at every Todd County School following recent action by the school board, the sheriff’s office and Todd Fiscal Court.

There is already a sheriff’s deputy at the high school and an Elkton police officer serves as a resource officer at the middle school.

Todd County Sheriff Tracy White told magistrates Wednesday morning that his office has agreed to equip officers at both elementary schools and the Todd County School Board has agreed to pay their salaries and fuel costs.

The issue at hand now is finding qualified individuals to hire for the positions and anyone interested in applying should call the Todd County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff White also announced his office has received a grant to purchase a K9 and they’re in the process of finding the right dog.

Meanwhile, fiscal court also approved final reading of a $12.8 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year that includes a 6.5 percent cost of living adjustment for employees, with Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield saying there was only one minor correction to make from the first reading.

Court also made changes to the administrative code that raises the starting pay for emergency dispatchers to $11.45 hourly and $9 hourly for attendants at the convenience centers.
