Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center was the place to be Saturday morning, as hundreds of children and families took to the river and the pond for Take Kids Fishing Day.
Kids were catching fish left and right, from little bluegill to large catfish, and Jeffers Bend Steering Committee Chair Charles Turner says everyone was all smiles, happy to be back for Take Kids Fishing and giving families a chance to make memories and have fun together outside.
The event was postponed since 2019 due to the pandemic, but Turner is hopeful that is in the past and kids will have even more chances to catch Big Jeff—of which there were several eligible catfish that could have fit that title.
So while several extra-large catfish were caught—some 27 inches and up—it could be that Big Jeff continues to swim the waters at Jeffers’ Bend, waiting to be caught.
Prizes were given out for multiple categories, including a casting contest and largest and smallest fish of the day. Participants also had a chance to win door prizes.
