The two candidates running for Christian Fiscal Court magistrate in District 6 met in a League of Women Voters debate forum Monday evening.
Republican James McKnight and incumbent Republican Magistrate Phillip Peterson did the gambit of questions prepared by the League, including questions about the budgeting process, road conditions and public safety.
Peterson says if re-elected, he would be focused on improving KY 115 and increasing tornado preparedness across the county.
McKnight says improving infrastructure is a priority for him, along with increasing economic development throughout the county as a whole.
Both men agree that expanded broadband internet access into more rural areas of the county is of vital importance, and they would both work to create partnerships to make that happen.
McKnight says he thinks the budgeting process is sound, but he doesn’t care for the extended tax rebate system currently in place for incoming businesses. Peterson feels those incentives are necessary to help make the county more competitive on a national level, and if they weren’t offered then those businesses will go elsewhere.
