Murder investigation underway after two women found unresponsive from apparent overdose in Hopkinsville

Two women were found unresponsive in a vehicle on Braden Street from an apparent drug overdose Sunday evening and a murder investigation is ongoing as one of the victims died.

Hopkinsvlle Police Sgt. Alexander Cortez says HPD is investigating the death of 39-year old Chutney Armstrong of Clarksville as murder under provisions of state law since it’s suspected that she died from an overdose of fentanyl, opioids or heroin.

Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel pronounced Armstrong dead after she and Kelli Hines of Hopkinsville were found unresponsive in a vehicle at 306 Braden Street about 6:30 p.m. Sunday and Hines was flown to a Nashville hospital for further treatment.

Whoever provided the drugs to the women could be charged with murder under state law, but no arrests have been made.

Sgt. Cortez says drugs were found during the investigation and they are being sent off to the state crime lab for additional testing.

Anyone with information on the incident should call HPD at 270-890-1300.
