Candidates for Hopkinsville City Council in Ward 5 face-off in debate

The Hopkinsville League of Women Voters kicked off their candidate forums Tuesday afternoon with the Republicans running for Hopkinsville City Council in Ward 5.

Incumbent Amy Craig and challenger Anna Norris squared off in Hopkinsville City Council Chambers, fielding questions compiled by the league, ranging from topics such as COVID-19, fiscal responsibility and their top priorities.

The possibility of transitioning into non-partisan local elections was broached and Craig says there are no democrat or republican pot holes, and she thinks it’s most important to get to know the candidates, not the party attached to them.

Norris argues that people need to have all the information they can when deciding on how to cast a vote, and she is against non-partisan elections.

Both candidates spoke about how they would advocate for Hopkinsville at a state level, what could be done to address revitalization in downtown Hopkinsville, and what needs to happen to increase public safety city-wide. Craig and Norris will face-off on the ballot in the primary election.

The candidate forums will continue throughout the week, airing each evening on the Hopkinsville League of Women Voters Facebook page and on Spectrum Channel 376.
