Things heading in the ‘right direction’ as Gov. gives COVID-19 update

Governor Andy Beshear gave what could be his final COVID-19 update Monday afternoon, and had mostly positive news across the board.

He says a good chunk of the state has dropped all the way into the ‘green’ on the COVID-19 state incidence rate map and he expects that to continue, as numbers were down across the board in case numbers, hospitalizations and positivity rate, representing seven weeks of significant decline.

There were 9,532 new cases in the state across last week, decreased from the week before, and the positivity rate is at 4.17 percent—deaths do remain high, with 283 reported in the last week.

The governor is pushing for the General Assembly to pass a spending plan that includes funding to support COVID-19 mitigation efforts, saying many programs will stop if that money isn’t available, including test-to-stay programs in public schools.

The governor says while we are learning to live with COVID-19, that does not mean it’s suddenly gone—he says the COVID press conference can return if needed, but he’s hopeful it will be the last one.

COVID-19 information will continue to be updated each Monday afternoons on the Kentucky COVID-19 website.
