Lawmakers discuss transportation budget, other legislation

We’re more than two-thirds finished with the 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly and major legislation could soon emerge in the House.

While a conference committee will soon iron out an executive budget compromise after the House and Senate each passed their own versions, there’s still no House transportation budget. Representative Myron Dossett says expect that to come as soon as this week and it’ll be affected by the rising cost of oil.

Meanwhile, a House committee last week gave approval to legislation legalizing the use of medical marijuana in Kentucky with some restrictions on how it can be used and Senator Whitney Westerfield says he’ll support it if it makes it to the Senate after hearing testimony of people it has helped.

The House Education Committee has forwarded on House Bill 277, sponsored by Representative Walker Thomas, which would create a better path for aspiring teachers to get their certification while they work.
