Snow causes some slick roads, use caution if getting out this morning

An inch or two of snow fell on most of the area late Friday night as advertised and motorists this morning are advised to use abundant caution if they must get out.

Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Tommy Hoffman says city streets are mostly wet, though he cautions there are areas of black ice. Interstate 24 and the Pennyrile Parkway are generally clear, but the same warnings about black ice apply.

He says roads out in the county are mostly slick and snow-covered and extreme caution should be used in those areas.

All bridges and overpasses should be treated as though they are slick this morning.

Two people were taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle slid into the bridge on KY 115 between Pembroke and Fairview just before 8:30 last night.

Elsewhere, Todd County Dispatch reported several vehicles sliding into ditches overnight. Main roads there are also mostly clear with the exception of black ice, but county roads are slick and hazardous in some cases.

A Trigg County dispatcher reported no problems from overnight, but the same messages of caution apply there.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says their crews were out overnight clearing “A” and “B” routes—meaning interstates, parkways and other major routes—and they’ll be back out this morning clearing “C” routes.

A spokesperson says most interstates and parkways in western Kentucky are clear, but motorists should be cautious for slick spots and slick bridges and overpasses.

City and county road crews have also been hard at work before, during and after the snow.
