Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis announced Tuesday morning that a Buc-ee’s is coming to Oak Grove.
Speaking to Christian Fiscal Court, the mayor announced several projects—including a Buc-ee’s that will feature 145 gas pumps and create at least 300 new jobs.
Buc-ee’s is famous for being a type of super-sized convenience store that offers products not traditionally seen at your average gas station. They also claim to have the cleanest restrooms in America.
An employee at the Buc-ee’s corporate headquarters says the Oak Grove location is expected to open sometime in 2024. It will be located at the northeast corner of KY 115 at I-24 at Carneal Lane, according to Oak Grove Tourism Director Traci Cunningham.
A Buc-ee’s is set to open in Richmond in the second quarter of this year and in Smiths Grove next year. The stores are most common in Texas.
The announcement was part of longer remarks to magistrates about needs in Oak Grove, with the mayor asking fiscal court to use any influence it has with Pennyrile Electric and Hopkinsville Electric System to prioritize Oak Grove for the expansion of broadband fiber internet access.
While it’s unlikely to happen in the immediate future with construction set to begin soon on the new consolidated high school, the mayor says Oak Grove will continue to advocate for the city to have its own elementary school.
Mayor Jarvis reminded that Oak Grove is Christian County’s second-largest city and she hopes to work with the county to see it grow.
