Judge denies probation for man convicted of strangulation, domestic abuse

Christian Circuit Judge Andrew Self denied probation Monday morning for a man convicted of strangulation, burglary and domestic assault.

Hopkinsville police arrested 20-year old Jacob Williams of Hopkinsville in October after he attacked his girlfriend with a broomstick and choked her.

During final sentencing Monday, Williams did not apologize for his actions during the first three times the judge gave him a chance to speak for himself, only saying he would take domestic violence classes and do better if he was granted probation.

Williams then told the judge he was sorry for his actions, but claimed the victim would lie about him to get him in jail.

Judge Self ultimately rejected Williams’ request for probation, sentencing him to two years in prison.

Williams will get credit for time he’s already served toward his parole eligibility.
