Severe threat likely done today, heavy rain returns Wednesday/Thursday

It appears western Kentucky and middle Tennessee dodged a bullet regarding any major severe weather outbreaks or flooding during the first half of the week, but another round of heavy rain is in the forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday.

Christine Wielgos is the warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Paducah and said during a conference call Tuesday morning that western Kentucky is no longer under a slight risk for severe weather and the concern for major flooding issues seems to have subsided.

More rain will arrive in the region Wednesday evening and Thursday and while there could be wintry weather north and west of the Ohio River, it looks to be all rain with the possibility of flash flooding in Kentucky counties along the Tennessee border.

There’s currently no risk for severe weather in western Kentucky for that event.

There could be a reprieve from watching storms next week, as Wielgos says early forecasts are showing cooler and dryer than normal conditions.
