More than halfway through the 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly, the urgency in Frankfort is likely to pick up in Week 8.
There had been some hope of getting a biennial budget to the governor’s desk earlier than usual, but Senator Whitney Westerfield says he’s disappointed to say that’s appearing less likely with the current pace of the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee.
Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke is hopeful the legislature will take up meaningful tax reform next month and believes Kentucky should move toward more of a consumption-based tax system similar to our neighbors in Tennessee.
Representative Walker Thomas agrees it’s time to tackle tax reform this session.
The General Assembly is off for President’s Day and will return to work Tuesday.
